Our Newest PGA HOPE Ambassador: James Meade
PGA HOPE Southern Texas is proud to welcome James “Jim” Meade as our newest PGA HOPE Ambassador. A retired United States Army Brigade Sergeant Major, devoted husband and father, and passionate advocate for his fellow Veterans, Jim embodies the spirit of service that lies at the heart of PGA HOPE.
Jim's journey of service began in Columbus, Ohio, where he enlisted in the United States Army as a Combat Medic immediately after high school. He later became a Licensed Practical Nurse in the U.S. Army Reserve while attending The Ohio State University before being called back to active duty following the events of September 11, 2001. Over the next two decades, Jim would serve around the world in leadership roles of increasing responsibility, ultimately retiring in 2020 from Fort Knox, Kentucky as a Brigade Sergeant Major and Chief Instructor. Throughout his distinguished military career, he led more than 2,200 Soldiers stationed worldwide and was awarded the Legion of Merit in recognition of his exceptional service.

While his accomplishments are impressive—earning multiple degrees, professional certifications, and prestigious military accolades—those who know Jim best speak most highly of his character. He is a servant leader whose compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to others have defined both his military and civilian life.
Like many Veterans, the transition from military service was not without its challenges. After retiring in 2020, Jim struggled to find purpose during the COVID pandemic. Looking for ways to stay busy, he spent his days mowing lawns for elderly neighbors before his wife, Rachele, encouraged him to find something that would bring him fulfillment. Remembering his love for the game, Jim discovered PGA HOPE and enrolled in a local program in the summer of 2022. It didn't take long for him to ask a simple question that has defined much of his life: "How can I help?"
Since then, Jim has become an invaluable member of the PGA HOPE community in San Antonio. He has helped grow Veteran programming, assists with fundraising efforts and events, and serves as a mentor and friend to countless Veterans. His shared experiences allow him to connect with participants in meaningful ways, creating an environment where Veterans feel seen, valued, and supported. Fellow PGA HOPE leaders describe him as someone who listens first, leads with empathy, and inspires others simply through his actions.

Today, Jim and his wife of 23 years, Rachele, live in San Antonio—affectionately known as Military City USA—with their two daughters, Riley and Briannah. As our newest PGA HOPE Southern Texas Ambassador, Jim continues his lifelong mission of serving others. His story is a powerful reminder that while military service may come to an end, a life of service never does.
We are honored to have Jim represent PGA HOPE Southern Texas and look forward to the lasting impact he will continue to make in the lives of Veterans across our community.
